A secret waterfall so secret that the locals don’t know about it? That’s what we call zen. And we'll share it with you… provided you only tell your closest buds.
Hidden in Puerto Rico's lush El Yunque rainforest, the Juan Diego Waterfall requires some effort – and sturdy shoes – to climb to. You might get a little muddy on the way, but we promise it’s worth it. While most people elbow their way to Mina Falls nearby, you’ll be tarzan-swinging your way into the clear water of the Juan Diego. Each year, El Yunque's mystical, parrot-filled forest provides tens of thousands of tourists a happy break from the hustle and bustle of San Juan.
Today, most of El Yunque’s trails are well marked and paved thanks to the U.S. Forest Service. However, the path to Juan Diego Waterfall is not among them, which is what makes it secret and enticing. But be forewarned: this is not a hike for the faint of heart. Get the detailed directions
, unless getting a little lost is part of your plan. If it is, we’re totally with you.
When you finally arrive, the water will be freezing. But you should take the plunge anyway. Have a
afterwards to warm right back up.
Go ahead, get lost!
