LandShark Bar & Grill and LandShark Surfshack Retail Shop to open in Myrtle Beach!

LandShark Bar & Grill and LandShark Surfshack Retail Shop to Join SkyWheel Observation Wheel as Myrtle Beach Oceanfront Boardwalk and Promenade’s Newest Dining and Entertainment Experience

Representatives from SkyWheel Myrtle Beach and Margaritaville announced plans to open an observation wheel and restaurant and retail shop in Myrtle Beach, S.C. in May 2011.

The SkyWheel Myrtle Beach will stand 200 feet above the beautiful Atlantic Ocean and serve as the anchor attraction to the new 1.2 mile Myrtle Beach Oceanfront Boardwalk and Promenade. SkyWheel Myrtle Beach will be the first observation wheel of its kind in the United States; the second in North America and the largest wheel of any kind east of the Mississippi River.

“We are very excited about the new joint venture with LandShark Bar & Grill and LandShark Surfshack we have in Myrtle Beach,” said David Busker, CEO of Koch Development, developer of SkyWheel Myrtle Beach. “LandShark Bar & Grill is the perfect dining complement to the SkyWheel experience and we look forward to bringing this concept to the oceanfront boardwalk in Myrtle Beach. We believe local residents and tourists alike will be very receptive to this experience and anticipate a prosperous partnership for many years to come.”

Brought to you by your friends at Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville, LandShark Bar & Grill will be located on the new oceanfront Boardwalk next to the awe inspiring SkyWheel. Inspired by the great “beach joints” that once dotted the Atlantic coast, LandShark Bar & Grill will be the perfect blend of ocean breezes, boardwalk action, spectacular views, great food, generous drinks, your favorite beach tunes and good old fashion fun. The LandShark Surfshack will offer an array of merchandise themed around the popular beer brand, LandShark Lager, as well as a selection of Sky Wheel souvenirs. LandShark’s laid back atmosphere, casual dining, bar and entertainment will soon be a favorite with both tourists and the Grand Strand’s local residents.

“We love Myrtle Beach and are thrilled to bring our new concept LandShark Bar and Grill to this exciting project,” said Tamara Baldanza, Director of Marketing for Margaritaville Hospitality Group. “The beach location will be the perfect spot to take a ride on the new SkyWheel, grab a bite to eat, listen to some music and hang out for a while.”

The newest, most exciting way to see the entire Myrtle Beach landscape, SkyWheel Myrtle Beach will feature 42 Swiss-manufactured fully-enclosed gondolas. Each gondola will be climate-controlled and comfortably seat up to six passengers. In addition to providing year-round temperature control, SkyWheel Myrtle Beach gondolas will feature UV protective, non-reflective blue glass for excellent viewing and photo or video capturing; a neutral sand-colored interior with bench seating and intercom system. The SkyWheel Myrtle Beach will have one VIP gondola which will feature these amenities in addition to a glass floor and leather bucket seating.

The approximate eight to twelve-minute ride on SkyWheel Myrtle Beach will provide guests with a panoramic view, from the Myrtle Beach shoreline to several miles inland, and serve as the perfect vantage point for the Grand Strand and a variety of different perspectives of the Myrtle Beach area at different parts of the day, creating the area’s most unique sightseeing opportunity.

A highlight of the SkyWheel Myrtle Beach will be a state-of-the-art computer-generated lighting system with over one million LED lights, creating an amazing light show each evening after sunset. A variety of dynamic light shows will run nightly.

St. Louis-based developer Koch Development and Pacific Development chose Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, for this joint venture because of the new Myrtle Beach Oceanfront Boardwalk and Promenade, which has its northern end near the SkyWheel Myrtle Beach site. Chance Morgan is the North American manufacturer of SkyWheel Myrtle Beach and the R60 Giant Wheel is designed by Ronald Bussink Professional Rides in Switzerland.
